Avoca | Meath | 2016

Creating Avoca’s largest ever store.

Avoca was opening its largest and most ambitious facility to date, in Dunboyne, Co Meath, and it appointed Flynn as its main contractor. It asked us to transform what was once a garden centre into an inviting, light-filled space that embodied its “farm-to-fork” ethos.

This major refurbishment project consisted of a soft strip-out of the existing building, an M&E fit-out and the installation of a below-ground drainage network. We built a brand new retail area, along with associated offices and welfare facilities, as well as a kitchen, self-service restaurant and coldrooms. Working closely with the design team, we made full use of the building’s impressive floor-to-ceiling height. We repurposed several structures, such as a garden shed, a barn and a silo, to divide the space and serve as retail display units.

We completed a large quantity of civil works on the exterior, resurfacing the car park and installing drainage and service runs. We also built a 2,500 sq ft café seating area and upgraded the existing grow house, adding a new fabric roof, planters and a canopy entrance. The exterior also reflects Avoca’s playful style, with vintage tractors in its signature bright colours in place at the entrance to the store.
