This project involved the construction of a new facility for the Irish Coast Guard Service, comprising of a garage for 3 Cliff Rescue Vehicles, an Emergency Operations Room and associated teastation, WC’s and IT Comms Room/ Radio Desk, Shower and Changing Rooms, and associated plant room areas, storage rooms, and external services compounds.
The new building is situated on a greenfield site, and includes a new car parking area to existing area of hardstanding, the widening of the access lane/ relocation of stone wall connecting from the public road to the development site. An existing temporary accommodation building was removed as part of the works. The ground beams foundations were put in place with a structural floor slab. The frame of the building was cast in-situ, with fair-faced exterior concrete with specialist finish. As the project is located in a coastal environment specialist cladding and finishes were required. There was exposed internal concrete walls put in place with board marked concrete. A glulam roof structure with CLT decking was installed on top of the RC walls with a warm roof build up & sedum blanket. The building façade compiled of a twin wall polycarbonate cladding system & anodized aluminium windows & doors to withstand the marine environments. Air tightness testing was carried out before completion which complied with Building Regulations Part L.
